RedButton's MD, Kilian Hagemann, submitted his PhD in Atmospheric Science on Mon, 28th Jul 2008.

Says Kilian:

I started RedButton almost three years ago because I saw a gap in the market. However, this meant relegating my PhD studies to part time which for most people implies it will eventually be dropped. Instead I persisted on weekends and in the evenings to write and complete my "Mesoscale Wind Atlas of South Africa", on top of my committment to leading my own business. It was very tough but it was a challenge and I succeeded in the end

This event exemplifies two key aspects of our company culture and values. Firstly when we commit to doing something, we persist and persevere until our goals are met. Secondly, it serves as an example our mission to uplift the country not only in terms of what we do as a company but also personally - all RedButton founders have contributed to South Africa's international research profile in terms of publications.
